If you hold a current mobile food premises registration certificate, you can apply for a permit to be part of the Hobart Food Trucks Program. Registering for this program allows you to trade in certain defined areas within the municipality.
Food trucks are defined as any vehicle that is registered as a mobile food premises within Tasmania under the Act. Trucks may be road-registered vehicles such as trucks, minivans, caravans or enclosed trailers. Non-motorised, non-registered vehicles such as push-carts or tricycles are also considered food trucks.
Only road-registered vehicles, where trade is wholly from inside the vehicle, can trade on the road while participating in the program. Only non-motorised, non-road-registered vehicles can trade on footpaths or in parks or reserves while participating in the program.
Trading on private land during special events falls outside the scope of this permit. Mobile food vendors intending to trade at special events are advised to speak to individual event organisers about specific trading requirements for the relevant event. There are two licences available: full annual licence or a short period licence.
