Major Project Permit - Tasmania


You will need to apply for this permit if you intend to undertake a major project. Major projects are those that are significant, complex development undertakings and have impacts across more than one municipal boundary.

To apply, notice must be given to the agency, which will then prepare and provide an assessment criterion that the project must satisfy. Following the submission of a satisfactory major project impact statement, the Agency may either accept or reject the application.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for consideration, proposed major projects must have at least two of the following:

  • be of strategic importance to the region
  • be of significant scale and complexity
  • have a significant impact on a region's economy, environment or social fabric.

You will also need to ensure that you follow any legislative or regulatory requirements.
