Minor's Permit - Tasmania

Description

You will need this permit if you are under the age of 18 and intend to use or possess a firearm. The firearm must be used under the supervision of a holder of a firearm licence or a person approved to supervise the use by minors of firearms to which the permit relates.

Young people between 12 and 13 years of age may apply for a permit that allows them to use a firearm on an approved range under supervision. A person between 14 and 17 years of age may apply for a permit that allows them to use a firearm in the field and on a firearms range.

To be eligible for this permit you must:

  • be between 12 and 18 years of age
  • have the written approval of your parent / guardian.

Prior to shooting in the field, minors must complete the course in firearms safety.

 

Duration

The permit remains in force until you turn 18 years of age, unless it is cancelled.
