You will need this accreditation if you intend to operate a passenger transport service. Accreditation is a compulsory scheme for operators of passenger transport services. Passenger transport services include:
- taxis
- luxury hire cars
- restricted hire cars
- buses
- hiring out self-drive vehicles (e.g. rental cars, vans, motor homes).
Accreditation is a legal requirement and acknowledges that you have in place systems and processes that meet approved standards to ensure safety of the service you intend to provide.
If you intend to operate a passenger transport service that involves taxis, luxury hire cars or restricted hire vehicles you will also need the appropriate operational licence in addition to holding accreditation. Services operated using large vehicles (10 or more seats) do not need an operational licence.
To determine which category of service you will provide, you can complete the 'Operator Accreditation Self-Assessment Tool' in the other resources section below.
