Permit to Possess Products of Wildlife for Taxidermy - Tasmania

Description

You will need this permit if you intend to deliver products of partly protected, protected, specially protected or restricted (special purposes) wildlife to the holder of a commercial taxidermy licence for the purpose of taxidermy.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

Applications for the taxidermy of specially protected wildlife will only be issued for individual specimens in the following circumstances:

  • scientific purposes
  • use at educational organisations / facilities
  • to a person, business or government body where the applicant can demonstrate that appropriate educational interpretation material relating to conservation of that species will be displayed alongside the specimen
  • to a registered wildlife rehabilitator who will use the specimen for educational purposes.

Applications for protected or restricted (special purpose) wildlife will only be issued for individual specimens where:

  • the applicant can demonstrate that the product of wildlife will or has been lawfully obtained e.g. authorised under a hunting licence, permit, or through the death of a legally possessed animal or purchased through a Tasmanian auction house
  • the product of wildlife has been legally obtained interstate and imported to Tasmania.
