You will need this permit if you intend to explore for petroleum in Tasmanian coastal waters. Tasmanian coastal waters extend for three nautical miles from the coastline of Tasmania. If you intend to undertake exploration activities outside this area, you will need to apply for a licence under the appropriate Act.
A petroleum permit is granted over a defined area called a block. The Agency may publish a notice inviting applications for a permit over particular blocks. The maximum number of blocks you are able to apply for is 400.
