Pilotage Exemption Certificate - Tasmania


You will require this certificate if you want to dispense with the services of a pilot when commanding ships for which a pilot would otherwise be required.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this certificate, you must:

  • hold a certificate of competency as an Australian Master Class 1 or an equivalent certificate or experience and qualification approved by the Authority
  • have served aboard a vessel with no less than 1 first mate, navigating the area to which the exemption applies for no less than 12 months immediately prior to application
  • produce a medical certificate that meets the specified requirements
  • pass any training or examinations required by the Authority.
