You will need this licence if you intend to grow, possess, sell or supply alkaloid poppies for commercial purposes. Alkaloid poppy means a plant of the species Papaver somniferum or Papaver bracteatum. These species contain alkaloid material, including morphine, thebaine and codeine, for use in pharmaceuticals.
It is a condition of this licence that prior to growing poppies, the holder must ensure that there is a contract, in force between the holder of the licence and a manufacturing chemist, requiring alkaloid poppies to be grown under the licence.
