You will need this licence if you intend to mine for petroleum products (category 4 minerals) or geothermal substances (category 6 minerals). This licence is given if you have an exploration licence or special exploration licence that specifies these categories.
A production licence is granted if the Minister is satisfied that there is sufficient amount of the mineral to justify the mining activity:
The Minister may only grant an application for a production licence if satisfied that the applicant:
- intends to undertake production of Category 4 or Category 6 minerals
- intends to comply with the Act
- has an appropriate plan of development or plan of field development
- has provided sufficient information relating to likely environmental impact
- has provided a copy of current public liability insurance
- has provided a security deposit, and
- has provided any other information requested by the director.
