Production Licence - Tasmania

Description

You will need this licence if you intend to mine for petroleum products (category 4 minerals) or geothermal substances (category 6 minerals). This licence is given if you have an exploration licence or special exploration licence that specifies these categories.

A production licence is granted if the Minister is satisfied that there is sufficient amount of the mineral to justify the mining activity.

This licence grants you, or a person contracted by you, to conduct the following activities:

  • explore for certain categories of minerals
  • carry out production operations
  • enter or pass over Crown or private land.

Licensees are not permitted to conduct activities on private land without the consent of the owner and occupier of the land, within 100 metres of the surface of any natural lake, dam, reservoir, well, artificial pond, or any substantial dwelling or building. Suitable notice must be given to the landowner before entry.

To be eligible for this licence you must:

  • be at least 18 years old or a body corporate (or a combination of both)
  • have sufficient financial and technical resources
  • hold an applicable public liability insurance policy.

Licence applicants must also be able to supply a security deposit to cover the cost of rehabilitation or environmental liability in the event of default by the licensee.
