Permit to Breed Cats - Tasmania

Description

You will need a cat breeding permit if you intend to breed cats. This will permit exempt you from the requirement to de-sex cats where the cat is part of your commercial business.

You will not need a permit if you are a registered cat breeder. To be recognised as such, you will need to be a member of an approved cat organisation or hold a valid State Government Breeder Registration issued prior to March 2022. The State Government no longer accepts applications for cat breeder registrations.

Cat breeders must ensure that all cats intended for sale:

  • are not less than 8 weeks old
  • have an approved microchip implant
  • are de-sexed
  • have had a veterinary check and are wormed and vaccinated.
