Registration of Rail Infrastructure Managers of Private Sidings - Tasmania

Description

You will need this registration if you intend to become a rail infrastructure manager of a private siding. A siding is a portion of a railway track that branches away from the main rail infrastructure. A private siding is defined as a siding that is owned, controlled or managed by a person other than the person who manages the adjoining rail infrastructure.

Private sidings do not include:

  • marshalling yards
  • crossing loops
  • passenger or freight terminals
  • sidings under the management of an accredited rail infrastructure manager
  • any siding designated as a non-private siding by the national regulations.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this registration you must:

  • be the rail infrastructure manager of the private siding
  • establish a comprehensive risk management scheme and risk register
  • demonstrate that the railway operations you intend to carry out requires a private siding
  • be able to provide detailed information about the siding and your intended activities
  • be able to comply with all the requirements in the national regulations.

Ongoing eligibility requirements

You will be required to provide the Office of the National Rail Safety Regulator with an annual activity statement.
