You will need this registration if you intend to volunteer
for or be employed in a role involving child-related work. Child-related work
is face-to-face contact with children in a child related sector, or work in a
child related role, including but not limited to the following services:
- child care
- clubs or associations
- coaching or tuition
- youth justice
- child accommodation
- child health

This registration is necessary so that children are
protected against prohibited people such as people that have been convicted of
serious sex and violence crimes against children. It involves a risk assessment
process following checks of your criminal record and background.
When registering you must nominate whether you will be
engaging in regulated activities in the capacity of a volunteer or paid
employee. A registered person who is registered in the class of volunteer must

being phased in gradually through to 1 January 2017. Anyone already undertaking
child-related work may not need to apply immediately. When you have to register
will depend on the expiry date of your current screening with the Agency. You
should carefully examine the information material provided by the Agency or
contact them in person to determine your deadline for registration.
Employers of people working with children are responsible for
and able to verify online that each employee has a valid working with children
registration. It is not sufficient to rely on the working with children
registration card or paper evidence.
