Registration to Work with Vulnerable People - Tasmania

You will need this registration if you intend to volunteer for or be employed in a role involving child-related work. Child-related work is face-to-face contact with children in a child related sector, or work in a child related role, including but not limited to the following services:

  • education
  • child care
  • clubs or associations
  • coaching or tuition
  • religious
  • youth justice
  • adoption
  • disability
  • child accommodation
  • child transport
  • child health
  • child mentoring.

An employer will not be able to employ you unless you have this check.

This registration is necessary so that children are protected against prohibited people such as people that have been convicted of serious sex and violence crimes against children. It involves a risk assessment process following checks of your criminal record and background.

When registering you must nominate whether you will be engaging in regulated activities in the capacity of a volunteer or paid employee. A registered person who is registered in the class of volunteer must not engage in a regulated activity for financial or other material benefit or reward.

Please be aware that the requirement to be registered is being phased in gradually through to 1 January 2017. Anyone already undertaking child-related work may not need to apply immediately. When you have to register will depend on the expiry date of your current screening with the Agency. You should carefully examine the information material provided by the Agency or contact them in person to determine your deadline for registration.

Employers of people working with children are responsible for and able to verify online that each employee has a valid working with children registration. It is not sufficient to rely on the working with children registration card or paper evidence.

Please consult the Contact Officer for more information.
