Security-Sensitive Dangerous Substances Permit - Tasmania

Description

You will need this permit if you intend to use, store, manufacture, purchase, sell or import:

  • security-sensitive explosives (SSE)
  • security-sensitive ammonium nitrate (SSAN).

If you employ staff, they will not need a separate permit. However, if an employee will be working unsupervised with a security-sensitive substance, you will need to nominate them as a responsible worker.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this permit, you must:

  • be a fit and proper person
  • be able to demonstrate that you have a legitimate need to use the substance
  • ensure that each person nominated as a responsible worker is at least 18 years of age
  • have a security plan.

Duration

A long-term permit is issued for 3 years, and must be renewed after that period. A once-off, short-term permit may be issued for less than 12 months, but this permit cannot be renewed.
