Security-Sensitive Dangerous Substances Permit - Tasmania

Description

You will need this permit if you intend to use, store, manufacture, purchase, sell or import:

  • security-sensitive explosives (SSE)
  • security-sensitive ammonium nitrate (SSAN).

If you have employees, they will not need a separate permit, but you will need to nominate those employees who will have unsupervised access to the security-sensitive dangerous substance (responsible worker), and they will have to undergo security checks. If successful, they will be issued with an identity card that they must carry with them when working with the substance.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this permit, you must:

  • be a fit and proper person
  • be able to demonstrate that you have a legitimate need to use the substance
  • ensure that each person nominated as a responsible worker is at least 18 years of age
  • have a security plan.

Duration

A long-term permit is issued for 3 years, and must be renewed after that period. A once-off, short-term permit may be issued for less than 12 months, but this permit cannot be renewed.
