Segregation Design and Method Approval for Dangerous Goods - Tasmania


You will require an approval if you intend to use:
  • design a segregation device (Type II)
  • use a non-compliant method of segregation.
Segregation involves separating dangerous goods from incompatible substances. This minimises the risk of contamination and or dangerous reactions if they came into contact. Contact could be caused by a leak, spill or vehicle accident.
A segregation device is a device used to segregate dangerous goods from incompatible goods.
A method of segregation approval approves the use of a method of transporting dangerous and incompatible goods which is not compatible with the Australian Code for the Transport of Dangerous Goods by Road and Rail (ADG Code).

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for a Type II segregation devices approval your design must:
  • be compliant with Chapter 6.11 of the ADG code.
To be eligible for a methods of segregation approval:
  • it must be impractical to use a segregation device
  • the risk of transporting the goods by road is not greater than the risk by using a segregation device or compliant method.
