Short Term Unregistered Vehicle Permit - Tasmania

Description

You will need this permit to drive an unregistered vehicle for a short period of time on public streets. This permit does not register the vehicle and the vehicle must be roadworthy. The duration of your permit will be the minimum number of days needed to complete your journey. This can be up to 28 days.

Situations where this approval may be needed include:

  • using personal transportation devices (e.g. segways) as a part of your tour business
  • moving an unregistered vehicle from one location to another
  • moving an unregistered vehicle to a place of repair
  • moving an unregistered vehicle to participate in an approved event.

You need to comply with the specific conditions placed on your permit if you intend to carry out commercial tours using personal transport devices (PTDs) such as, segways or motorised self-balancing boards. PTDs do not comply with Australian Design Rules and cannot be registered in the usual manner.
