Tasmanian Bag Check Code of Conduct - Tasmania

Retailers must comply with this code of conduct when checking the bags of customers who enter their retail store. The code clearly sets out what a retailer can and cannot do when conducting a bag search.

Retailers must display signs at the store entrance which indicate that:

  • agreeing to a bag check is a condition of entry to the store
  • checks can be performed on bags, parcels, cartons and containers.
