You may need vehicle trade plates to operate a business involved in the handling, use, manufacture, importation, sale, modification or repair of motor vehicles or trailers.
Trade plates are attached to the rear of unregistered vehicles or trailers and permit them to be driven for certain approved purposes, including:
- demonstrating or test-driving a vehicle
- driving the vehicle from the place of manufacture to the place where the vehicle will be offered for sale
- driving to an exhibition or show to display or trial the vehicle and return
- moving a vehicle to or from a place where repair or maintenance work is being undertaken.
If approved to use trade plates, businesses must keep detailed records which must be made available for inspection by the Authority as needed.
