You will require this licence if you intend to drive a vehicle on Tasmanian roads. All vehicles (i.e. cars, motor bikes, vans, trucks, etc.) must be registered before being driven. The registered operator may be a body corporate or an individual and they are recorded in the register as being responsible for the vehicle. These responsibilities include:
- payment of vehicle fees and charges
- related fines and / or sanctions, unless it can be proven that the registered operator was not using the vehicle at the time of the offence
- ensuring the roadworthiness of the vehicle
- notifying the Registrar of any changes to the recorded details.
Certain vehicles and exceptional situations exist whereby vehicles do not require registration to be driven on public streets in Tasmania.
To apply, complete the Application for Registration form. Other forms and related documents are available on the Department of State Growth Transport website.
Please consult the Contact Officer for more information.
