Registration as a Cat Breeder - Tasmania

You will require this registration if you intend to breed cats. This registration will exempt you from the requirement to desex cats where the cat is part of your commercial business.

Registered cat breeders must ensure that all cats intended for sale:

  • Are not less than 8 weeks old;
  • Have an approved microchip implant;
  • Are desexed; and
  • Have had a veterinary check and are wormed and vaccinated.

If you are a member of an approved cat organisation you will be taken to be a registered breeder, and you will not need to apply for registration. It is an offence under the Act to breed cats unless you are a registered breeder.

Please consult the Contact Officer for more information.
