You will need this licence if you intend to temporarily operate a tow truck outside of your licence conditions or as a substitute tow truck due to mechanical issues or repairs. This licence is attached to a vehicle, not a person.
A tow truck issued with this licence may provide accident towing services to a vehicle of any weight, as long as the tow truck is capable of towing that vehicle. In the Melbourne and Geelong greater area, tow trucks operate under an accident allocation system. Tow trucks licensed to operate in other areas of Victoria may attend an accident scene outside the Controlled Area without an allocation.
