Building Product Accreditation - Victoria

You will need this if you want your building product to be recognised as complying with the performance requirements of the Building Code of Australia (BCA) or the Victorian Building Regulations. It is designed to support innovative solutions that are difficult to assess by individual building surveyors. A building product includes construction methods, design components or systems connected with building work.

Accreditation is not required if the building product is certified under the national CodeMark Certification Scheme. It is also not required for building products that comply with the deemed-to-satisfy provisions of the BCA.

Service type

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this accreditation, you must provide:

  • an appraisal of the building product from an organisation or person that is recognised by the Committee as competent to make the appraisal
  • an appraisal of the building product from an organisation or person nominated by the Committee addressing matters related to the properties and performance of the building product
  • a test report from an Accredited Testing Laboratory or a Registered Testing Authority
  • any installation manuals produced for the building product
  • any other information or documentation required.

It is strongly advised that you make an appointment with the Agency to evaluate your product's suitability for accreditation. Consultation at an early stage of the process will identify which accreditation system is most suitable for you and if accreditation is deemed to be appropriate.
