Accreditation to Install or Maintain Alternative Fuel Systems in Motor Vehicles - Victoria

Description

Only businesses with an Alternative Fuel Systems Assessment and Certification Scheme (AFSACS) agreement in place are approved to work on vehicles fitted with gas fuel systems. To work on vehicles that are fitted with gas fuel systems, you must enter into an AFSACS agreement with VicRoads. The purpose of AFSACS is to regulate and support industry involved in the installation, maintenance and repair of gas fuel systems in vehicles.

Eligibility requirements

Prior to being considered for a AFSACS agreement, your business will need to meet certain site requirements. Once the relevant site requirements have been met, you will also need to do the following to obtain a AFSACS agreement:

  • obtain public liability insurance for $20 million per occurrence plus professional indemnity for $5 million per occurrence or public liability insurance for $20 million per occurrence plus products liability insurance for $20 million in aggregate
  • obtain national police checks that are not less than three months old for the registered business owner and all associate technicians listed on the AFSACS agreement
  • provide proof of all qualifications that you have specified for each associate technician listed in your AFSACS agreement.

Additional information

It should be noted that under the new AFSACS system, the former AAFRB registration no longer exists. Businesses previously registered with AAFRB are no longer accredited to work on motor vehicles with gas fuel systems.
