Animal Sale Permit - Victoria

Description

Your will require this permit if you intend to sell animals outside of a pet shop or residential property. Sale events may include adoption days, pet shows and animal charity events.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible, you must:

  • provide a document describing the animal accommodation at the place of the proposed sale
  • provide a copy of your Animal Care Policies and Procedures that will apply to the event
  • provide a copy of your agreement with a veterinary practitioner confirming that the veterinary practitioner will remain on call for the duration of the event and that the venue is suitable for the event
  • provide a copy of your Consumer Sale Guarantee for the sale of animals at the event
  • complete the application form
  • pay the required fee.

Ongoing eligibility requirements

During the sale even, you must:

  • ensure all animals have access to clean drinking water at all times in a container that cannot be tipped easily
  • ensure all animals have adequate protection from adverse whether conditions at all times
  • ensure the sale guarantee is honoured if a purchaser is not satisfied with an animal purchases at the event due to health, physical or other reasons (excluding accidents).

Additional information

You must provide a report to the Minister for Agriculture within 28 days of the sale event. The report must contain:

  • each species of animal and the number of each species offered for sale
  • the number of each species of animals sold
  • any non-compliance with the permit that you are aware of
  • any offence you were charged with during the sale event by a council officer of RSPCA officer
  • any adverse welfare outcomes for the animals during the sale event.

Disqualified persons or entities

You will not receive approval if you have been found guilty of an offence relating to domestic animals or animal welfare, or the Minister reasonable believes that you have not, or will not, comply with conditions and regulations.
