Approval for Prohibited Weapons and Body Armour - Victoria

Description

You will require this approval if you intend to engage in activities that would otherwise be prohibited. This includes:

  • manufacturing, selling or purchasing prohibited weapons and body armour
  • the display or advertisement for sale of prohibited weapons and body armour
  • the possession, use, carriage or transportation of prohibited weapons and body armour.

This approval may be granted to individuals, partnerships or to a body corporate. It covers items such as:

  • Dangerous articles: Any item which is adapted or modified and can potentially be used as a weapon or carried with the intention of being used as a weapon.
  • Body armour: A garment or item that is designed or adapted for the purpose of protecting the body from the effects of a weapon, including a firearm.
  • Prohibited weapons: Weapons considered inappropriate for general possession.
  • Controlled weapons: Weapons that can be used for legitimate purposes by persons over 18 years old, but require regulation because they pose a possible danger to the community.

Your application must be accompanied with the following information:

Individual application:

  • Contact details;
  • Victorian drivers licence number;
  • Proof of identification;
  • Identification reference;
  • A certified copy of any change of name document;
  • History of offences;
  • History of previous applications made to the Chief Commissioner;
  • A medical report;
  • A declaration of satisfactory storage requirements;
  • Reasons for applying for approval; and
  • Written consent by a parent or guardian if under 18 years of age.

Body corporate application:

  • Business details;
  • Contact details;
  • Details of any nominated or responsible person;
  • Victorian drivers licence number of all nominated or responsible persons;
  • Proof of identification for all nominated or responsible persons;
  • A certified copy of any change of name document for all nominated or responsible persons;
  • History of offences for all nominated or responsible persons;
  • History of previous applications made to the Chief Commissioner for all nominated or responsible persons;
  • A medical report for all nominated or responsible persons;
