Approval of Dangerous Goods Packaging Designs - Victoria

Description

You will require this approval if you intend to design or manufacture packaging used for the transport of dangerous goods. There are many different types of packaging that can be used, for example:

  • portable tanks
  • pressure receptacles
  • barrels
  • cans
  • composite packaging.

The application may be made by any person or business in Victoria, including the designer, manufacturer or user of the packaging. A range of substances and goods are classified as dangerous goods, including explosives and combustible liquids.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible, you must

  • ensure your design complies with Part 6 of the Australian Dangerous Goods Code, satisfying all the relevant testing and inspection requirements
  • supply a copy of NATA or a equivalent test certificate or report
  • applicant details including location of manufacturer and import premises
  • photographs or detailed technical drawings of the packaging.
