You will require this approval if you intend to sell or supply certain electrical equipment. This approval will certify that the electrical equipment is safe for use. This approval is only mandatory for prescribed electrical equipment that is considered high-risk such as battery chargers, kitchen goods, whitegoods, lamps, socket outlets and plugs. Residual current circuit breakers (RCBO) are prohibited for supply or sale unless they meet the additional testing requirements outlined in the 'Additional Testing and Verification Requirements for RCBO's' document located in resources.
This approval is not compulsory, by law, for non-prescribed equipment to be supplied; however, you can voluntarily apply for this approval. If you intend to supply non-prescribed equipment without approval, it will be your responsibility to ensure the equipment meets minimum safety standards.
