Aquaculture Licence - Victoria

Description

You will require this licence if you intend to undertake any of the following aquaculture activities:

  • use or create a habitat (whether artificial, natural or both) to hatch, rear, breed, display or grow specified species for sale or other commercial purposes
  • hatch, rear, breed, display or grow specified species for sale or other commercial purposes
  • use and / or possess specified or general commercial aquaculture equipment
  • stock fish into protect waters
  • engage another person to undertake one of these activities.

Conditions of an aquaculture licence may vary depending on the type activity being conducted or the species being farmed. These include:

  • All species of aquatic vertebrates excluding mammals, reptiles, birds and amphibians
  • Sharks, ray, lampreys and other cartilaginous fish
  • Aquatic molluscs, crustaceans and echinoderms.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence you must:

  • be an Australian resident
  • be an individual, a single corporation or co-operative (partnerships or consortium not eligible to apply)
  • make an application in the required form to the Agency for consideration if you are a fit and proper person to hold the licence
  • pay any prescribed fees.

Ongoing eligibility requirements

It is an ongoing requirement of this licence that you comply with any conditions or obligations imposed by the Agency, and in particular you must:

  • maintain a book of account for any priority species, keep it for three years, and make it available for inspection by an authorised officer
  • notify the Agency of the outbreak of any notifiable disease in the aquaculture crop
  • complete an aquaculture crop production return form biannually and return it to the Agency.
