Description

This code aims to ensure that animals used for scientific testing are treated in a humane, ethical and responsible manner by:

  • emphasising the responsibilities of investigators, teachers and institutions using animals
  • ensuring that the welfare of animals is always considered, and the use of animals is justified.

Compliance with this code of practice is not mandatory. However, by complying with this code you can demonstrate that you have met your legal obligations. Proving that you have complied with this code can be used as a defence against a charge of cruelty or aggravated cruelty to animals.
