Australian Standard AS 3786-1993 Smoke Alarms - Victoria

You will be required to comply with this standard if you intend to construct residential buildings.

In Class 1, 2 and 3 buildings, a self contained smoke alarm complying with this standard must be installed in each dwelling or sole-occupancy unit in appropriate locations near the ceiling of every storey.

This standard specifies the requirements for the design and performance of electrically operated smoke alarms containing detection and alarm facilities. It also allows, but does not require, for the inclusion within the smoke alarm facilities for inter-connection with other units or accessories.

Please consult the responsible agency for more information and to ascertain the level of compliance (if any) that may be required by your business.
