Authority to Possess or Administer an Exotic Disease - Victoria

Description

You will require this authority if you intend to possess an exotic disease agent, or administer an exotic disease agent to livestock.

Exotic disease agent means any pathogen, agent or organism that is capable of causing an exotic disease in livestock. An example of an exotic livestock disease is foot and mouth disease.

This authority is only granted for scientific research purposes.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

Authorisation will only be granted to persons who will maintain the exotic disease agent within the security of the Australian Animal Health Laboratory in Geelong, or another approved secure laboratory.

To keep an exotic disease in an approved laboratory, you must ensure that:

  • the disease is maintained in an in vitro systems
  • the disease maintained in accordance with any other conditions imposed by the Agency
  • you only perform tests or research that is for the diagnosis, monitoring or surveillance of exotic diseases in livestock in Australia.
