Automated Driving Systems Permit - Victoria

Description

You will require this permit if you intend to drive any automated vehicle for the purpose of conducting an Automatic Driving System (ADS) trial on a highway. The ADS permit also authorises a holder of a full driver licence to act as a vehicle supervisor, and the participation of any automated vehicle to drive on a highway.

An ADS means any technology that is capable of performing the task of driving a motor vehicle.

The categories for vehicles for which an automated driving system may be equipped include:

  • motor cycles or motor trikes
  • cars
  • light rigid vehicles
  • medium rigid vehicles
  • heavy rigid vehicles
  • heavy combination vehicles
  • multi-combination vehicles.

Your permit may be subject to conditions which relate to the use of the vehicle, record keeping and reporting.

Ongoing eligibility requirements

Duration

An ADS permit remains in force for the period specificed in the permit. This must not be more than 3 years.
