Cap Licence - Victoria

Description

You will need this licence if you intend to build and operate a new thermal waste to energy facility, or increase the amount of permitted waste you are allowed to process.

Waste to energy involves recovering energy from waste materials to produce heat, liquid fuels and electricity. Only waste that can't be recycled can be treated in thermal waste to energy facilities.

The cap is the maximum total amount of permitted waste that can be processed in Victoria each year by thermal waste to energy facilities. The cap has been set at 2.5 million tonnes per financial year.

Recycling Victoria has concluded the application process for thermal waste to energy cap licences. Recycling Victoria may invite expressions of interest for cap licences when capacity becomes available.
