Certificate of Compliance - Radiation Sources - Victoria

Description

You will need a certificate of compliance for each radiation source that you use or possess. The radiation source is tested periodical against the radiation safety standards. A certificate of compliance will be issued by an approved tester if the radiation source meets the standards.

Radiation sources include:

  • radioactive materials (including sealed sources)
  • ionising and non-ionising radiation apparatus
  • sealed source apparatus.

The following types of X-ray equipment, when used for human diagnostic imaging purposes, have been prescribed by the Regulations and will require periodic testing:

  • plain film radiographic X-ray equipment
  • mammography X-ray equipment
  • fluoroscopic X-ray equipment
  • computed tomography scanners.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for issue of the certificate you must have your prescribed source examined by an approved tester.

A certificate of compliance will not be required where a management licence holder possesses one of the prescribed radiation sources but the source is not actually used.

Ongoing eligibility requirements

It is an ongoing requirement of this licence that you comply with all current industry codes of practice, and abide by any conditions or obligations issued by the Agency.

Duration

Currency of certificates issued for each type of radiation source vary: Computed Tomography scanners and Mammography X-ray equipment - 12 months after issue, Plain film radiographic X-ray equipment and Fluoroscopic X-ray equipment - 2 years after issue.
