Code of Practice for Electric Line Clearance - Victoria

Description

You will need to comply with this code if you are an electricity distribution company. Owning or operating an electric line grants the responsibility for creating and maintaining the required clearance space around that electric line. The code of practice is incorporated into the Electricity Safety (Electric Line Clearance) Regulations 2020.

The code gives clear guidance on the methods and standard clearance requirements for ensuring vegetation is kept clear of electrical power lines. The objectives of this code are to:

  • ensure public safety
  • establish standards that must be observed when electric lines operate near vegetation
  • reduce vegetation related interruptions to electricity supply
  • balance fire and electrical safety, reliability of the electricity system and community costs with conservation values, in the best interests of the people of Victoria
  • minimise the effect of electric lines on vegetation.
