Code of Practice for the Operation of Pet Shops - Victoria

Description

You must comply with this code if you operate or work in a pet shop. A pet shop is a shop situated in a permanent location, where a pet animal is offered for sale. The following animals are commonly offered for sale at a pet shop:

  • dog
  • cat
  • rabbit
  • guinea pig
  • mouse
  • reptile.

The code specifies the minimum standards of accommodation, management and care that are appropriate to the welfare, physical and behavioural needs of pet animals held for sale.
