Code of Practice for the Welfare of Pigs - Victoria


You are required to comply with this code if you are responsible for the care and management of pigs. You have this responsibility if you are either:

  • a livestock agent
  • a transport operator
  • working on or operating a farm, depot, sale yard, feedlot or processing plant.

This code provides standards on a range of requirements for the welfare of pigs. These include:

  • food and water
  • shelters and accommodation
  • protection from climatic extremes and predators
  • handling facilities
  • management practices
  • identification
  • transportation.
