Commercial Passenger Vehicle (CPV) Driver Accreditation - Victoria

Description

You will require this accreditation if you intend to drive any type of commercial passenger vehicle. A commercial passenger vehicle is a vehicle that services the commercial passenger industry, offering unbooked and booked services for hire or reward. These include:

  • taxi-cabs
  • general or restricted hire cars
  • ride-share cars
  • limousines.

You also need this accreditation to drive a bus if:

  • the vehicle you drive for work is owned by an accredited bus operator, or
  • you drive a 10, 11 or 12-seat (driver including) commercial mini-bus owned by a registered bus operator.

If you are currently an accredited commercial passenger driver from another state or territory in Australia or New Zealand, you can apply for mutual recognition. Mutual recognition allows a skill or training to be recognised Australia-wide and aids the application process.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this accreditation, you must:

  • hold a valid Victorian full driver licence
  • have held a full and current driver licence in an Australian state or territory or in New Zealand for a minimum period of six months
  • be medically fit to drive a commercial passenger vehicle
  • pass a national criminal history check
  • pass a driving history check
  • submit the required forms
  • pay the prescribed fees.

Ongoing eligibility requirements

You will need to abide by minimum industry business operational and service standards. There are also cleanliness standards that you will have to abide by.

You must pay an annual fee and pass a medical assessment every three years to ensure your driver accreditation remains current.

Duration

Accreditation will remain valid for a period up to three years.

The application process will take at least 20 business days to complete.

Additional information

If you held driver accreditation prior to 2 July 2018, your licence will automatically change to ongoing accreditation. You do not need to reapply and you do not need to pay an annual fee until notified by Commercial Passenger Vehicles Victoria.

If you hold a conditional accreditation, you will need to complete and pass a medical assessment annually.
