Consent to Carry Out Works or Activities to Historic Archaeological Sites - Victoria

Description

The Heritage Act 2017 protects all historical archaeological sites in the state, and all known sites are included in the Heritage Inventory. If you plan to damage or excavate a historical archaeological site you will need to apply for consent, which is likely to entail a program of archaeological excavation or monitoring by a suitably qualified historical archaeologists.

An application must be submitted to, and approved by, the Executive Director of Heritage Victoria prior to any disturbance of a historical archaeological site. An application must be completed in accordance with the Guidelines for Investigating Historical Archaeological Artefacts and Sites.

If a site is uncovered at any point during a project, then works that impact on the integrity of the archaeology must cease immediately and Heritage Victoria be informed.
