Dairy Farmer Licence - Victoria

Description

You will need this licence to run a commercial dairy farm. A dairy farm is any premises where cows, goats, sheep or buffalo are kept or milked for the purpose of producing milk for sale (regardless of whether it is for human consumption).

This licence does not permit you to process milk beyond the normal requirements for shipment to a dairy manufacturer. Separate licensing requirements apply for the transport, manufacture and distribution for sale of dairy products.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence, you must:

  • submit a completed licence application form
  • nominate an approved Food Safety Program
  • pay any required application and licence fees in full.
  • comply with the Food Standards Code
  • possess necessary skills and competencies

An authorised DFSV officer is required to inspect the premises to ensure that it is fit for the purpose and confirm adherence to the approved Food Safety Program.

Ongoing eligibility requirements

Your premises must continue to meet the requirements detailed in the Code of Practice for Dairy Food Safety that sets the minimum mandatory standards for the production, manufacture, storage and transport of milk and dairy foods to safeguard public health. It must be used in conjunction with the Food Standards Code.

All Victorian dairy farms are required to have a Food Safety Program addressing all the requirements in the Code.

The Agency will conduct regular validation and verification audits of the food safety programs.

Licence holders are subject to terms and conditions as determined by the Agency. The licence conditions are specific to each licence category.

Duration

Non-Bovine (sheep and goat): 1 year. Bovine (cows): 2 years.
