Domestic Animal Business Registration - Victoria

Description

You need this registration if you intend to operate a domestic animal business. Businesses requiring this registration include:

  • animal shelters
  • pounds
  • pet shops
  • commercial businesses for the rearing, training, boarding or breeding of dogs, cats or other common animals.

Owners of domestic animal breeding businesses must register the business and each animal belonging to the business over three months of age.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Exemptions

This registration is not required by Guide Dogs Victoria, Vision Australia Seeing Eye Dogs or holders of scientific procedure licences.

Ongoing eligibility requirements

You will need to abide by all current state and federal legislation relating to animal welfare and any relevant codes of practice.

Please note that all dogs or cats may need separate annual registration with your local council.

Duration

One year, unless otherwise specified on the licence.

Expiry

10th April each year.
