Domestic Animal Business Registration - East Gippsland Shire Council - Victoria

Description

You need this registration if you intend to operate a domestic animal business. Businesses that need this registration include:

  • animal shelters
  • pounds
  • pet shops
  • commercial businesses for the rearing, training, boarding or breeding of dogs, cats or other common animals.

Owners of domestic animal breeding businesses must register the business and each animal belonging to the business that is over three months of age.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Exemptions

This registration is not required by Guide Dogs Victoria, Vision Australia Seeing Eye Dogs or holders of scientific procedure licences.

Eligibility requirements

From 11 April 2013, owners registering a dog or cat for the first time will not be entitled to the reduced fee for micro-chipping alone, but other reduced fees may be available, including if your animal is desexed.

 

If you require an exemption to desexing your pet, there is now an additional requirement that a veterinarian must personally examine an animal and state in writing why the health of the animal would be harmed if it was desexed.

 

A $10 levy now applies to all Domestic Animal Business (per business).

 

You can now only be defined as the owner of a dog or cat if you are over 18; younger pet lover's parents or guardians are regarded as the owner.

Ongoing eligibility requirements

You will need to abide by all current state and federal legislation relating to animal welfare and any relevant codes of practice.

Please note that all dogs or cats may need separate annual registration with your local council.

Duration

One year, unless otherwise specified on the licence.

Expiry

10th April each year.
