Electrical Inspector's Licence - Victoria

Description

You will require this licence if you intend to inspect electrical installation work. The electrical installation work may be one of respective classes of prescribed electrical installation work or for non-prescribed electrical installation work. The licence may also give credibility to a person when assessing electrical installations for safety, in addition to inspections carried out to regulatory requirements.

There are five types of inspectors licences:

  • Class G (low voltage installations)
  • Class RE (electricity generation system or battery system installations)
  • Class H (electrical equipment installed in hazardous areas)
  • Class V (high voltage installations)
  • Class M (fixed electrical equipment in a patient area).

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence, you must:

  • have the qualifications, experience, competency and proficiency for the relevant class of licence being applied for
  • documentary evidence of competency and examination results (where applicable)
  • pay the relevant fee
  • all applicants must complete the theory and practical assessments.

Ongoing eligibility requirements

A licensed electrical inspector must not inspect prescribed electrical installation work if he/she was involved with the installation of that work, or if they are a registered electrical contractor engaged to carry out the work.

The inspector must sign the certificate of inspection within the certificate of electrical safety certifying that the prescribed electrical installation work carried out, or supervised, by the licensed electrician meets all the requirements of the legislation and regulations.
