An electrician's licence entitles the holder to all types of electrical work in Victoria without supervision. To apply for a licence, you must meet one of the following criteria:
- complete the Licensed Electrician's Assessment, complete four years as an apprentice electrician and hold a Certificate III in Electro-technology Systems Electrician
- hold an Electrician (supervised) Licence, hold a Certificate III in Electro-technology Systems Electrician, complete twelve months of work under a supervised licence and complete the Licensed Electrician's Assessment
- hold a supervised workers licence, complete fours years as an electrical fitter, complete one year as a holder of a supervised workers licence and complete the Licensed Electrician's Assessment
- have qualifications, proficiency and experience to a level of the previous three. This might mean that the person has a licence from another state or territory.
If you intend to contract, or offer to contract, to carry out electrical installation work, you must also be registered as an electrical contractor.
