Funeral Provider Registration - Victoria

Description

You will need this registration to operate as a funeral provider.

Any business that supplies funeral goods and funeral services to the public is considered to be a funeral provider. Funeral services are:

  • preparing human bodies for burial or cremation
  • arranging, supervising or conducting a funeral ceremony.

Funeral goods are products supplied to a consumer in connection with funeral services (such as caskets and cremation urns).

A funeral provider must provide the Agency with registration information within three months of commencing business.

To register you must provide the Agency with your business details by filling in the Funeral Provider Registration Form.

Ongoing eligibility requirements

It is an ongoing requirement of this registration that you abide by all industry legislation and codes of practice, and provide relevant information as required by the Agency.

As a funeral provider, your responsibilities include obligations to:

  • offer a basic funeral service (burial or cremation)
  • make publicly available a clear price list of all funeral goods and services you provide
  • provide each customer a statement of funeral costs that meets legislative requirements
  • document any pre-paid funeral contracts you make, and record the details in a register
  • ensure any money paid under a pre-paid funeral contract is invested in a funeral benefit fund or a policy issued by a registered life insurance provider
  • establish a procedure for dealing with customer complaints.
