Game Bird Farmer Licence - Victoria

Description

You will need this licence to keep, breed, release and sell introduced game birds for the purposes of hunting.

This applies to game bird farms where pheasants, partridges and European, Japanese or Californian quail are farmed for hunting. Native birds, including game ducks and stubble quail must not be hunted on a game bird farm.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence, you must:

 

  • be at least 18 years old
  • have a suitable property to house the wildlife
  • ensure that you have obtained planning approval to use your property as a game bird farm, if required by your local council
  • have a clean criminal record, and have had a National Police Check issued in the past two years
  • be a person of good character.

Ongoing eligibility requirements

You must ensure that:

  • the area proposed for hunting is at least 100 hectares in size and is securely fenced to minimise the risk of escape of any game birds released for hunting
  • the hunting area of the premises will need to be under the direct and constant supervision of yourself or your licenced assistant at all times while any activity relating to hunting is taking place.

Please lodge your application directly with the Agency. Do not attach payment as you will be invoiced for the fee if your application is approved.

You will need to attach to your form:

  • a copy of your National Police Check
  • a copy of your Management Plan
  • documentary evidence of either Local Government planning approval or your exemption from this requirement
  • details of the wildlife that will be released for hunting
  • a plan of the total area of the premises, including details of all buildings and fences including enclosure design and specifications, materials to be used in construction, enclosure layout, holding pens, shelters, watering and feeding facilities and related equipment and any other relevant information.

Renew

Renewal of a Commercial Wildlife Licence is conditional upon submission of a Return for Wildlife, which must be received by The Wildlife and Game Licence Service by April 14. Licence holders who meet this requirement will receive a renewal notice approximately 4-6 weeks before their licence expires on 30 June.
