Gaming Industry Employee's Licence - Victoria

Description

You will need this licence if you are employed in the gaming industry by a venue operator, gaming operator or bingo centre.

This applies if your work will involve any of the following tasks:

  • accessing the logic area of a gaming machine, or a restricted monitoring component
  • installing gaming equipment, or connecting gaming equipment to an electronic monitoring system
  • servicing, or testing gaming equipment, monitoring equipment, pre-commitment systems.

This applies to working at a bingo centre if your work involves:

  • selling bingo tickets
  • writing up running sheets
  • checking back numbers on bingo tickets
  • paying prizes.

A separate casino special employee licence is required to perform certain work in a casino.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence you must:

  • be aged 18 years of age or over
  • not be ineligible to apply for a gaming industry employee's licence (e.g. disqualified from holding a licence due to disciplinary action or conviction for a relevant offence, etc.)
  • submit to fingerprint and palm prints
  • provide an original National Police Record check (not more than 3 months old) with your application
  • provide an original Individual Credit Report (not more than 3 months old) with your application
  • provide two passport photos (with name printed on back) with your application
  • provide an original Historical Name Extract from the Australian Securities and Investment Commission (ASIC)
  • attend the Agency (metropolitan applicants) or regional police station (country applicants) to undertake fingerprinting (appropriate identification must be supplied at the time)
  • complete the application form and lodge with the Agency together with other specified documentation
  • pay the prescribed fee.

In considering an application, the Agency must make an assessment of your:

  • integrity, responsibility, person background and financial stability
  • general reputation having regard to character, honesty and integrity
  • suitability to perform the type of work proposed.

Ongoing eligibility requirements

You must comply with the gaming industry standards and any other conditions imposed upon the licence by the Agency.

Any changes to your personal circumstances or other specified matters that may affect your eligibility to hold this licence must be notified to the Agency within 14 days of the change occurring.

Within six months of starting work for a gaming venue operator in the gaming machine area of a venue, you must complete an approved Responsible Services of Gambling (RSG) training course. You must also complete a refresher RSG every three years.

Failure to comply with these requirements may result in the licence being suspended or cancelled.

Duration

Licence remains in force unless it is cancelled, surrendered or the expiration of 10 years after date licence was granted.

Application process

Apply

Metropolitan applicants must attend the Agency for fingerprinting and lodgement of your application. Regional (country) applicants may attend any regional police station to have their prints taken. The signed checklist must be attached to your gaming industry employee's licence application form.

You will need to attach the following to your application form:

  • a copy of your National Police Certificate
  • a copy of your Credit Report
  • the application fee
  • two colour passport photos with your name printed on the back
  • identification.
