Geothermal Energy Exploration Permit - Victoria

Description

You will require this permit if you intend to explore for geothermal energy. You will not require an exploration permit where the temperature is less than seventy degrees Celsius or the heat source is less than one kilometre below the Earth's surface.

This permit is offered by tender only.

Exemptions

This permit is not required for explorations for locating geothermal energy that are:

  • situated in temperatures less than 70 degrees Celsius
  • less than one kilometre below the earth's surface.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this permit, you must:

  • apply using the prescribed application form
  • indicate specific details about the area that you are applying for
  • provide a proposed work summary, including details of technical assessment of the area
  • include any likely effects that the exploration may have on public safety
  • include the likely benefits of the proposed work relative to the economy, social and environmental impact
  • provide details of technical qualifications of employees and the technical advice available
  • provide details of the financial resources available
  • provide any other details required by the Authority
  • pay the prescribed fees.
