You will require this licence if you intend to act as a harbour master. It is a legislative requirement that certain harbours employ a harbour master. All other Victorian harbours have the option to employ a harbour master, but the requirements will most likely vary.
A licensed harbour master is required to:
- monitor compliance by vessels in certain ports
- ensure the provision of adequate systems and procedures to ensure safe navigation of vessels including vessel traffic services
- ensure adequate communications and the publishing and dissemination of information regarding channel lengths, depths and configurations.
Please consult the responsible agency for more information and to ascertain the level of compliance (if any) that may be required.
