Hazardous Chemical Information System - Victoria

Description

You may need to comply with this standard if you manufacture or import substances for use in the workplace. The Hazardous Chemical Information System (HCIS) contains a list of dangerous liquids and gases and the acceptable concentrations for each of them, as amended from time to time.

Any manufacturer or importer of a substance must determine if the substance is hazardous by referring to the HCIS before authorising its use in the workplace.

If you have determined that the substance is hazardous you must prepare a Material Safety Data Sheet for the substance. The hazard classification of the substance in the Material Safety Data Sheet must be determined according to the HCIS or the Approved Criteria for Classifying Hazardous Substances.
