Jockey Licence - Victoria

Description

You will need this licence if you are a jockey and intend to ride horses in official races, trials or events. There are four types of licence:

  • apprentice jockey
  • racing jockey
  • jumps jockey (A and B)
  • picnic jockey.

Interstate or international jockeys must apply for a visiting jockey licence.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence, you must:

  • have the practical, pre-requisite experience reasonably required to be a Jockey and to ride at the level permitted by the relevant licence
  • have the necessary skill and pass various riding assessments conducted by the Agency
  • be at least 16 years of age
  • meet the requirements of the Agency's 'Medical Standards of Fitness to Ride'.

You will also be required to satisfy the following assessments:

  • National Police Record Certificate
  • Racing Disciplinary Record
  • Race Riding Record
  • interview with RV (where required)
  • knowledge of the Rules relating to Jockeys.

Licences are valid from 1 August to 31 July that racing season.
